How to use it

  1. Open your ASS file

    Choose or drop the ASS file, or several at once. It is read by this page and never uploaded.

  2. Check the SRT preview

    SRT is already selected. Check the preview, or pick another format if you need one.

  3. Download the SRT file

    Download the converted file, or all of them as a ZIP when you opened several.

What is kept and what is removed

Text, timings, line breaks written as \N, and italic, bold and underline survive the conversion. Fonts, sizes, colors, outlines, positions, rotations, fades and karaoke effects have no SRT equivalent and are removed. Comment lines and vector drawings are skipped.

Lines from different styles, such as dialogue, signs and songs, all become ordinary captions. Look through the preview and remove what you do not need.

Lines that overlap

ASS files often show two lines at once, for example dialogue at the bottom and a sign at the top. In SRT both appear in the same place at the same time. If that looks cluttered, the subtitle cleaner can shorten overlapping captions.

Questions and answers

Does it work with SSA files too?

Yes. SSA, the older SubStation Alpha format, is read the same way.

Why is the karaoke effect missing from my SRT?

SRT cannot time single syllables or move text, so karaoke and other effects are removed. The words of each line are kept.

Can I convert SRT to ASS?
