How to use it
Open your SRT file
Choose or drop the SRT file, or several at once. It is read by this page and never uploaded.
Check the ASS preview
ASS is already selected. Check the preview, or pick another format if you need one.
Download the ASS file
Download the converted file, or all of them as a ZIP when you opened several.
The default style
The ASS file uses one style called Default: Arial at size 72, white text with a black outline, centered at the bottom of a 1920 × 1080 frame. Players scale it to your video, so it also looks right at other resolutions.
Italic, bold and underline become ASS override tags, and line breaks become \N. Curly braces in the text are changed to parentheses, because ASS reads braces as styling commands.
Styling it further
Open the file in an ASS editor such as Aegisub to change fonts and colors, add more styles or position signs. Converting first saves you from retyping the timings.
Questions and answers
Will the ASS file work in VLC?
Yes. Most desktop players and media servers can show ASS subtitles with their styling.
Can I choose a different font?
Not on this page. Open the converted file in an ASS editor to change the Default style; the change applies to every caption at once.
Will my SRT colors carry over?
No. SRT font color tags are removed during conversion; italic, bold and underline are kept.
