Subtitle time shifter
Subtitles a little early, a little late, or drifting further off as the film goes on? Move every caption by a fixed number of seconds, convert the timing between frame rates, or set when the first and last lines should appear and let the tool stretch everything in between.

MicroDVD and Spruce STL files count video frames. Choose the frame rate of the video the subtitles belong to.

How to use it
Open your subtitle file
Choose or drop one or more subtitle files in SRT, VTT, ASS, SBV, TTML or another supported format. They stay on your device.
Pick how to fix the timing
Move everything by a few seconds, change the frame rate, or enter the correct start time of the first and last caption.
Download the synced file
Check the preview, then download. The new file keeps the same format as the original.
Which method fits your problem
If every line is off by the same amount, for example always two seconds late, use Move everything. Watch the video, note how early or late the words are, and enter that number of seconds.
If the first lines are fine but later lines get further and further off, the subtitles were made for a version of the video with a different frame rate. Change frame rate fixes this in one step. A common case is subtitles made for a 25 fps European release played with a 23.976 fps film release.
If you are not sure, use Match two captions. Find the moment the first spoken line starts in your video and the moment the last one starts, type both times, and the tool moves and stretches every caption in between to fit.
Finding the right numbers
Most video players show the current time to the second, and many show tenths or milliseconds. Pause at the first word of a line and compare that time with the start time shown under each field. Small differences of a tenth of a second are hard to notice, so you do not need to be exact.
Frame rates are often listed in a player’s media information or a file’s properties. If you do not know them, try 25 to 23.976 first: it is the most common mismatch.
What happens to the rest of the file
Only the timings change. Text, line breaks and italic, bold or underline formatting stay as they were. If you move captions earlier, any caption that would end before the start of the video is removed and the page tells you how many. A caption that would start before 0:00 starts at 0:00 instead.
ASS and SSA files are saved as ASS with a single default style: the words, line breaks and italic, bold or underline are kept, but fonts, colors and positions are not.
Move everything and Change frame rate work on several files at once: open them together and download each one or all of them as a ZIP. Match two captions works on one file at a time, because every file has its own first and last caption.
Questions and answers
Is the subtitle time shifter free?
Yes. There is no account or sign-up, you can shift up to 100 files at a time of up to 20 MB each, and files are processed in your browser.
Can I shift subtitles by milliseconds?
Yes. Enter a decimal number of seconds, such as 0.25 for a quarter of a second.
Why do my subtitles drift out of sync over time?
The subtitles were timed for a video with a different frame rate or a slightly different cut. Use Change frame rate, or Match two captions when you do not know the frame rates.
Will the synced file work in VLC and other players?
Yes. The file is written in the same standard format as the one you opened, so any player that read the original can read the new file.
